On-line registration is available this year.

Friday Keynote Speaker: Anthony Flaccevento, SCALE, Inc.

The local food system has made great strides in many parts of the country, from Appalachia to Arkansas and the Midwest. In spite of this, and a great deal of other work to promote local economies, the overall impact of this work remains small. Additionally, the progress we have made faces enormous challenges, whether from bad trade deals or corporate-driven food and farm policy. What can we do to both strengthen emerging healthy economies, and magnify their impact on the public debate and public policy? How can we improve opportunities and income for farmers, while also enabling every day folks to gain access to healthy food? In this talk, Anthony Flaccevento will share some stories from his research on the bottom up economy, and describe six essential transitions he believes we must make to build a healthier, more just and sustainable economy and food system. Following the talk, he will be selling and designing copies of his recently released book, Building a Healthy Economy from the Bottom Up.

Mr. Flaccevento has 25 years of hands-on experience in sustainable community development, along with a BS degree in Agriculture and Environmental Science and a Masters degree in Economic and Social Development.
