Did You Know?

  • Most trees do not have a tap root, but instead have a spreading pancake root system, the majority of which is within 18" of the soil surface.
  • On large, mature trees with room to the grow, the roots may grow out at least twice as far as the tree crown.
  • Lawn roots are extremely competitive with tree roots for moisture and nutrients in the upper 4" of soil. Removing lawn and adding an organic mulch or a ground cover will give tree roots an advantage.

  • Registration is $80 and includes lunch.
  • The Botanic Garden/Friends of the Garden members, County Extension Educators, Master Gardeners and Linnaeus Gardeners registration is $60.
  • No later registrations or walk-ins can be accepted.
  • Registration must be postmarked by October 23.
