Featured Speakers

Mr. Vafaie has been working for Texas AgriLife Extension since 2013, providing resources and programs on integrated pest management for the green industry in Texas. He earned his B.Sc.H. in Animal Physiology at the University of Western Ontario, his Masters in Pest Management at Simon Fraser University, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. concurrently with his extension work through Texas A&M. The focus of his studies are on biological control of common horticultural pests, such as aphids and whiteflies. Mr. Vafaie continues to research and provide green industry growers with resources and new tools for best pest management practices, how to identify good insects from bad, and promotes the use of biological control where practical and economic.

Dr. Cloyd has an extension (70%) and research (30%) appointment at Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS). His research and extension program involves pest management in greenhouses, nurseries, landscapes, turfgrass, conservatories, interiorscapes, Christmas trees, and vegetables and fruits. Dr. Cloyd is the extension specialist in horticultural entomology for the state of Kansas with a major clientele that includes homeowners, master gardeners, and professional and commercial operators. He has published over 80 scientific refereed publications and over 900 trade journal articles on topics related to pest management/plant protection. In addition, he has authored or co-authored numerous books (Greenhouse Pest Management, Pests and Diseases of Herbaceous Perennials, IPM for Gardeners, Plant Protection: Managing Greenhouse Insect and Mite Pests, and Compendium of Rose Diseases and Pests), book chapters, manuals, PICT or picture-pocket guides, and extension-related publications.
