Dennis Martin

Dennis Martin is a Professor and Turfgrass Extension/Research Specialist at Oklahoma State University. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture at the University of Illinois, his Master’s degree and his PhD in Horticulture at the University of Illinois. His research activities include: evaluation of turf-type bermudagrasses, tall fescues, Kentucky bluegrasses, fine fescues, creeping bentgrasses, zoysiagrasses and buffalograsses for adaptation to Oklahoma. He assists in development of new seeded and vegetative propagated cold hardy bermudagrasses for sports turf, golf course fairways/tees and home lawns. He also evaluates management practices for use on roadside right-of-way vegetation.

His extension activities include: Development of formal suggestions for turfgrass selection, establishment, maintenance and pest control practices on golf courses, sod farms, athletic fields and commercial grounds in Oklahoma. Delivery of turf extension programming information to commercial and professional turf managers through a state-wide turf conference, workshops, and other printed and audio/visual media.

His honors and awards include: Recognition Award for Proprietary Technologies for Licensing of Production Rights Associated with Latitude 36, NorthBridge, Patriot, Riviera and Yukon bermudagrasses, Outstanding Extension Program Award in the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Recognition Awards for Patenting of Latitude 36, NorthBridge and Patriot bermudagrasses.
